BEN is part of a new European funded All Wales Development Partnership called "Curiad Calon Cymru". This partnership is working with BME individuals and communities to promote empowerment through activities addressing barriers to employment.

A Programme of work in Wales

BEN's work in Wales ranges from practical and specific activity on the ground, to input at policy and strategy level. Countryside Council for Wales is a major supporter.

Bicycle Recycling. According to gumtree.com the British throw away over 1.2 million bicycles every year. A Swansea project is helping to reduce this wastage by re-cycling the waste bikes. The Re-Cycle scheme in Swansea takes in donations of unwanted bikes which are refurbished, repaired and supplied cheaply to low waged people, asylum seekers and refugees. Development work in South Wales. Working with the ethnic communities across South Wales to support access to the natural environment, in particular the Muslim community in Newport and other hard-to-reach groups.

Swansea Recycling Scheme. 2005-2007. BEN will shortly be recruiting again for this full-time post which runs until December 2007. Working within a European funded partnership, BEN is developing recycling projects with the ethnic communities of Swansea, including ethnic catering businesses.

GWLAD BEN Project, 2005-2007. Llanberis. In this European funded development partnership, BEN is linking opportunities in the environmental and heritage sectors for ethnic communities in North Wales to informal learning.

Curiad Calon Cymru BEN Project. This project will be promoting employment in the environment and heritage sectors to ethnic communities, exploring ways in North Wales to support individual households as well as more evident ethnic communities, and in South Wales developing training for providerr organisations.
