Bicycle Recycling

According to gumtree.com the British throw away over 1.2 million bicycles every year. A Swansea project is helping to reduce this wastage by re-cycling the waste bikes. The Re-Cycle scheme in Swansea takes in donations of unwanted bikes which are refurbished, repaired and supplied cheaply to low waged people, asylum seekers and refugees.

How are bicycles processed?
A team of trained re-cycle volunteers check all bikes for safety, and make any necessary repairs. About 90% of bikes can be rescued, and many are in mint condition.

What bikes are acceptable?
We accept bikes that can be refurbished, stripping the worst ones for spares. We do not accept bikes if the wheel rims are rusty, or if the frame is bent.

Can you repair my bike?
We do low-cost repairs, and encourage cyclists to work on their bikes with re-cycle tools and help from volunteer mechanics.

Work for a bike
The work-for-a-bike scheme asks you to volunteer for two days to earn a bicycle of your choice. Please arrange this with the re-cycle manager.

Where can I make donations and pick up a bike?
Simply take your unwanted bicycles to the re-cycle workshop, or browse our showroom.
